Iakovos Panagopoulosinfo@iakovospanagopoulos.com ![]() Dr. Iakovos Panagopoulos is Associate Professor of “Editing” with an emphasis on Internal Editing at the School of Applied Arts and Sustainable Design of the Hellenic Open University. His research and creative work focus on film practice research, audiovisual storytelling, and the relationship between cinema, memory, and history. He is the author of The Third Path in Cinema: The Academic Filmmaker Model, the first Greek-language monograph dedicated to film practice research. He received his first degree from the Department of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University and subsequently completed an MA in Cinematography at Bournemouth University. In 2019, he completed his PhD at the University of Central Lancashire with the thesis Reshaping Contemporary Greek Cinema Through a Re-evaluation of the Historical and Political Perspective of Theo Angelopoulos's Work. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences under the supervision of Professor Serafim Seferiades. His postdoctoral project was entitled Suspended Spaces of Memory: Heterotopic Historical Narratives and Contentious Politics in Contemporary Cinematic Practice. He has published in international and national peer-reviewed journals, edited volumes, and conference proceedings, while actively participating in international research networks in the fields of cinema and creative research. Alongside his academic work, he maintains an active artistic practice as a filmmaker and screenwriter, with fiction and documentary films that have been screened and awarded at international film festivals. He is Head of the Student and Educational Programme of the Peloponnisos International Documentary Festival and a member of the Scriptwriters Guild of Greece, the Greek Directors Guild, and the Hellenic Film Academy.
