4th Athens International Digital Film Festival AIDFF

The 4th Athens International Digital Film Festival AIDFF will be held from 13 to 21 December, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and the support of City of Athens / Opanda.


The main program will be held in the two most historical cinemas in Athens, “Studio”, nearby Amerikis Square, and “Alkyonida”, on Ioulianou Street. These two cinemas are aimed to become the center of a larger artistic network in Athens. Both cinemas, "Alkyonida" and “STUDIO”, known as historical art cinemas, which have rallied the public and the intellect during the 70s and 80s, are reopening after 23 and 10 years of absence, and it seems that in this case one flower brings the spring.

 

The 4th Athens International Digital Film Festival, received over 400 applications from 45 countries and will screen over 250 films, 140 in the competition section, 70 premieres, feature films, Documentaries, Video Art, Animation, Experimental, Video Dance. In collaboration with the International Wildlife Vaasa Film Festival of Finland (partner of the Festival) it will also organize the "2nd International Panorama of Ecological and Science Films", which contributes to the dissemination of science through the power of new media and digital technologies used today by scientists around the world. Another supporter and partner of Athens Digital Film Festival is the Wildlife Conservation Film Festivals from USA, which takes place in New York, Miami, Washington and other American cities. The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy 7 new short films especially created by the students of the Edge Hill University Film Department to participate and be screened in AIDFF, something that takes place for the second time and started last year. A Premiere Screening for Dimitris Athanitis’ film "No Sympathy for the Devil" (1997) will also take place after new editing (Director's Cut). The film "No Sympathy for the Devil" is one of the very first Greek films that was produced though digital editing (Avid), ushering the digital age.

 

A lot of parallel events will take place, including art exhibitions, musical evenings, and photographic panoramas, tributes to important film Festivals based in Finland, England, USA, and Tributes to great Greek Filmmakers and Artists from the Cinema World. We will watch (Premiere Screening in Athens) the award-winning films of Camera ZIZANIO 2014, and will honor the teacher of many filmmakers, theater and television professionals, Eugenia Hatzikou. A Tribute of special significance to the actor George Coutouzis, protagonist of the film "Evdokia" by the great director Alexis Damianos will also be included. The Homage and Workshops will be held at Kipseli’s Theatre (STUDIO) and LA Theater (former “Rages” Theater). “Alkyonida” ’s renovated showroom will host the Cultural movement «Visual Journeys» No2, an art exhibition with reference to cinema combining artists coming from the fields of painting, sculpture and photography, (Barbara Spirouli Maria Litsopoulou, Maria Economou, Kostis Kapelonis, Ira Sarantaki, Giannis Klados, Dimitris Psomodotis, Falah Ghati).

 

Athens International Digital Film Festival stands as an international meeting point for creators and audience, since its very first year. Simultaneously it achieved an alignment with the major developments regarding cinema, which is steadily moving towards the Digital Age. Featured as an innovative Festival it soon experienced an unexpected response from many filmmakers around the world.

 

Digital Cinema has created an unprecedented technological revolution in the film industry, also affecting television and internet. The ergonomics and availability of digital cameras along with the endless possibilities of digital editing expand the capabilities of modern filmmakers allowing them to achieve traditionally impossible things. Thus a vibrant community is rising all around the world of millions who are interested in cinema, which continues to gather heads and affect the other arts, which often borrow tools, technology and ideas inspired by cinema to create new art species.
