Dickens on Film

In Athens the film tribute will take place at the Greek Film Archive from the 29th of March to the 3rd of April.

A special tribute Dickens on Film is organized by the British Council in Greece in collaboration with the Greek Film Archive, the National Book Centre of Greece and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival on the occasion of the bicentenary celebration of the birth of the great British writer, in Athens and Thessaloniki.

In Athens the film tribute will take place at the Greek Film Archive from the 29th of March to the 3rd of April.

In the context of the daily screenings five panel discussions co-ordinated by the National Book Centre of Greece are planned. Each will focus on different aspects of Dickens’ literary work, its reception in Greece as well as its adaptation for the cinema. Film directors, cinema specialists, authors, translators and academics from both Greece and Britain discuss and share their thoughts and views on Dickens’ multi-dimensional work with the audience. Director of the historic Film London, BAFTA and European Film Academy member Adrian Wootton and distinguished British screenwriter and author Michael Eaton, both of whom co-curated the BFI’s Dickens On Screen programme will also be present at the tribute.
